From a young age, I grew up seeing my mother always dressed in kimono for school events and New Year’s celebrations, and naturally, I also spent my New Year’s in kimono. I even went on dates wearing kimono.
As I began studying kimono dressing more seriously, I earned a teaching qualification and further deepened my knowledge of kimono. I have been a kimono instructor for over ten years and have also worked as a kimono advisor. As I learned about the history and regional characteristics of kimono, I became increasingly captivated by their depth and beauty. Teaching what I had learned and seeing my students improve and smile has brought me immense joy.
One of the charms of kimono is that, unlike Western clothing, the seams are not cut but can be unraveled and re-sewn, returning the fabric to a single piece that can be refashioned countless times. I studied both Japanese and Western sewing at college, so I have made not only my own kimono but also those of my husband and children, and seeing my family enjoy wearing them brings me great happiness.
I first encountered tea ceremony while working at a company, where I began lessons. When my children were in elementary school, we learned together and shared joyful moments. I love the quiet of the tea room, the gentle sound of water boiling, and the momentary stillness when water is added—these moments bring me peace and calm.
I also enjoy collecting vessels that evoke wabi-sabi. Recently, I have begun practicing kintsugi, restoring treasured pieces and seeing them reborn beautifully, allowing them to be used for many more years, which brings me great satisfaction.
子どもの頃、学校の参観やお正月にはいつも着物をまとった母の姿があり、自然と私もお正月は着物で過ごすようになりました。着物でデートをしたこともあります。
やがて本格的に着付けを学ぶ中で講師の資格を取得し、着物についてさらに深く学ぶようになりました。着付け講師として10年以上、またアドバイザーとしても活動し、歴史や産地ごとの特徴を知るにつれ、その奥深さや美しさにますます惹かれていきました。学んだことを人に伝える大切さと楽しさを知り、生徒さんの上達や笑顔に触れるたびに、私自身も大きな喜びをいただいています。
着物の魅力のひとつは、洋服と異なり、縫い代を断ち切らずに解いてつなぎ直すことで一枚の布に戻し、何度でも仕立て替えができるところにあります。短大では和裁・洋裁を学んでいたので、自分の着物はもちろん、夫や子どもの着物も仕立て、家族が喜ぶ姿を見ることは私にとって大きな幸せです。
お茶との出会いは、会社勤めをしていた頃に社内で習い始めたことがきっかけでした。子どもが小学生の時には一緒に学び、共に楽しむ時間を持ちました。お茶室の静けさの中で、湯がしゅんしゅんと沸く音、そこに水を差したときに訪れる一瞬の静寂に、心がすっと落ち着きます。その瞬間がとても大好きです。
また、侘び寂びを感じられる器が好きで、お店を巡って少しずつ集めています。最近は金継ぎも学び始め、大切な器を修復することで新たに美しく甦り、また長く使い続けられることに大きな喜びを感じています。
